Easter Lent Sweet – Kwarezimal

Kwarezimal is a Maltese Lenten biscuit cookie. This Kwarezimal recipe originated a long time ago when strict fasting was more common. Since this recipe contains no eggs or fat it was permitted during Lent.


  • 100g Lewż mitħun Ground Almonds
  • 100g Tqieq Flour
  • Qxur tal- Larinġ, Mandolin, Lumi Rind of an Orange, Tangerine, Lemon
  • 10g Kokadina Coca Powder
  • 2.5g Kanella Cinnamon
  • Għasel pur ta' Malta Maltese pure honey


Mix All ingredients together with a small amount of orange juice and kneed the dough.
Ones all are mixed and ready, cut dough into small pieces and give them a flat oval shape.
Set them in the oven for 15/20 min, let them cool. Before serving spread some honey on top and cover with nuts.
